Call The Midwife Christmas Special Rapidshare Season 4

Happy Christmas! If you're reading this, you must have just recently watched the latest Call the Midwife holiday special, most likely while enjoying a lovely cuppa with a delicious mince pie or piece of snowman cake. Our friends from Poplar encountered adversity this Christmas season, but as usual, kindness and joy outweighed the sorrow. 'Call the Midwife' Christmas Special There are mixed reactions from the midwives when they hear that a television crew will be filming their church carol service featuring the local children's choir.

A welcome festive visitor turns up in this year's Christmas special of Call The Midwife. No, it's not Santa Claus, but Trixie Franklin.

The flighty nurse is back after spending time away to battle her alcoholism and everyone is delighted to see her.

'She is very refreshed from her rehab in Portofino, as one would be,' laughs Helen George, who plays Trixie. 'She had a fling with a Count, as you do, she's got her drinking back under control and she's on the up.

'And what's nice about the new season (which starts in the new year) is that she has cut her relationships to one – including Christopher – and she is really just focusing on her career. We see her delving into the medical profession a bit deeper and so you get that juxtaposition of the fun, bubbly blonde from the first series and how far she has come, academically.'

But that doesn't mean she is any less fashion conscious, as everyone at Nonnatus House quickly finds.

'Her very lovely godmother, who she has been staying with in Portofino, takes her shopping on the way back to England via Paris and she gets some lovely couture Givenchy dresses made,' George says. 'So she turns up at Nonnatus House wearing one of them.

'However when a woman starts giving birth in the street, just outside a garage, she has to assist in an emergency delivery and the dress gets slightly ruined.'

In real life, George, 34, took time off from the show last year – not in sunny Portofino, but to have her first baby with her boyfriend, Jack Ashton, who played vicar Tom Hereward in Call The Midwife.

In tear-jerking scenes at the end of last season, Tom's wife Barbara (Charlotte Ritchie) died from meningitis and septicaemia, leaving him heartbroken.

Jack is not in the Christmas special or the new series and, at present, there are no plans for him to return. So, has George had to keep him up to date with what is going on in the show?

'No. We don't really talk about work,' she says. 'Jack has been spending a lot of time at home with the baby, as well as working, which has been lovely.'

Their daughter, Wren Ivy, was delivered in September 2017. And being a mum has changed the way George responds to the babies who feature in Call The Midwife.

'Before, whenever I was handling a baby in birth scenes, I was very pragmatic about it. I would do the scene with the baby and then hand the baby back. But now there's more of an emotional response to it. I'm more aware of the mother's worry in such scenes.'

Trixie arrives in time at Nonnatus House to provide cover as Sister Julienne (Jenny Agutter) and some of the other nuns head off to the Mother House. The Order's Mother Superior is ill and a new spiritual leader needs to be elected. It becomes clear, much to Sister Julienne's horror, that she is the favoured candidate to take over.

Meanwhile, two new recruits join the ranks at Nonnatus House – Sister Hilda (Fenella Woolgar) and postulant Sister Frances (Ella Bruccoleri). While Hilda has been a nurse and has experience of working in the East End of London as part of the Women's Auxiliary Air Force during World War ll, Sister Frances is naive and terrified about being out of her depth in Poplar.

There's another arrival from the Mother House, an unexpected one, in the forthright, energetic Sister Mildred (guest star Miriam Margolyes). She has her hands full with four Chinese orphans found abandoned in Hong Kong who are being adopted in the UK as part of the World Refugee Project.

Over at the surgery there is a new receptionist – bossy, no-nonsense Miss Higgins (Georgie Glean, Waterloo Road).

Christmas of 1963 is nothing like the big freeze of the previous year but when TV Guide visited the set to interview the regulars and watch filming, we were delighted to see a flutter of 'snow' being wafted around by two special-effects men. And Father Christmas, in the portly shape of handyman Fred Buckle (Cliff Parisi), makes an appearance to cheer up the local children.

'It's amazing that after seven seasons, Call The Midwife is more popular than ever,' says George. 'The storylines continue to be fresh and strong and people seem to like the formula which makes you cry one moment and laugh the next.

'All of the cast feel very lucky to be in it. Long may it continue.'

Call The Midwife Christmas Special, TVNZ 1, December 28

Set in the mid-'50s, Call the Midwife is a BBC-TV drama series which follows the adventures of Jenny Lee, a young midwife assigned to work with a nursing convent serving Poplar, a poor section of East London. In 2013, Call the Midwife aired a special holiday-themed episode that dealt with personal and community crises as an unexploded bomb and an outbreak of polio test the yuletide spirit of Poplar. Call the Midwife: The Christmas Album features a number of holiday classics used on the soundtrack of the Christmas episode, as well as original themes written for use in the broadcast and a few selections sung by the cast. Selections include 'The Christmas Song' by Nat King Cole, 'Blue Christmas' by Elvis Presley, 'It's Beginning to Look A Lot Like Christmas' by Perry Como, 'Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas' by Judy Garland, 'O Come, O Come Emmanuel' by Laura Maine (who plays Sister Bernadette), and 'When I Fall in Love' as sung by the show's stars.
